I had a very pleasant drive south from Elgin on IL-47 then turned east on
US-30 before ending the day on the west side of Joliet. This morning
started nicely with the discovery that I was about half a mile from one of
the top rated breakfast spots in Joliet. This is the second location for
Big Apple Pancake
House with the original going strong in Chicago Heights.

I stayed with US-30 into Indiana and even pulled over to take a picture of
the naked monuments at the Lincoln Highway Ideal Section in Dyer. The
plaques have been removed from the Ideal Section monument and the Henry
Ostermann Bench and are being refurbished. They will be remounted on the
restored monuments next year when a sidewalk and information kiosk are
added.

I turned onto I-65 at Merrillville and followed the interstate to
Indianapolis. This picture is from north of Lafayette where dozens of
windmills cover the countryside. I realize that it doesn't look at all
different from any other still photograph of a bunch of windmills but the
actual scene sure seemed different. Those blades are not stopped by the
camera's shutter. Not one of the more than 300 turbines was turning. It
definitely felt eerie.

I crossed the north edge of Indianapolis on I-465 then drove a couple of
mile from the expressway to check out
Redemption
Alewerks. That's their Reclamation Nitro Vanilla Porter sitting in
front of me.
The rest of the way home was about equal parts US-52, construction detours, and interstate. |
