Today the conference moved to Normal where it was welcomed by Town Council
President Pro Tem Kevin McCarthy. Evan Stern, of the
Vanishing
Postcards pod cast, was the first presenter. With "Beyond
Nostalgia and Neon: The Voices of Route 66", Evan demonstrated
mastery of his media tools along with insight and care for his subjects.
When I met Kevan at last night's hot dog roast, I had no idea who he was
or that his pod cast existed. I subscribed from my seat during his
presentation.
Rivian Automotive, the electric vehicle manufacturer, has a large operation in Normal. Bill Kemp talked about Bloomington-Normal's long electric vehicle history in"The Henney Kilowatt: Bloomington's Battery-powered 'Car of Tomorrow;". Ron Romero and Debyjo Ericksen updated us on the great progress at the "Illinois Rock and Roll Museum". |

After a lunch break, Jim Hinckley packed a lot of information into his
"In the Beginning: Dawn of the Great American Road Trip"
presentation. Then Lexington, IL, mayor Spencer Johansen spoke on
"From Memory Lane to 2026 and Beyond" followed by a panel
discussion of "Solo Women Travelers". Experienced Route 66
travelers Penny Black, Cheryl Eicher Jett, and Brenda St. Clair made up
the panel.

In the evening, a fair sized group gathered at the Bloomington Eagles to
listen to singer-guitarist Tim Dial. This was Tim's second year
entertaining conference attendees.
