Since Andy's was closed, I took advantage of the very nice breakfast at
the Saga and snapped this pair of birds on the way back to my room.
|
|
|
I did stop at the California Madonna of the Trail to grab a couple of
unobstructed pictures. Two of each pedestal's four sides are identical for
all of the Madonnas while two are unique. California's unique sides are
here.

I took a drive-by picture of the Saga after sleeping at the Wigwam so
tried to balance things by snapping the Wigwam after sleeping at the Saga.

|
|
Balancing things didn't help and I hit a major traffic holdup near
Keenbrook. I had just passed over lines of stopped traffic on I-215 when I
found stopped traffic in front of me. I'm guessing that all this traffic
on Cajon Boulevard was trying to escape whatever had I-215 backed up. I
never did find out what that was. Google Maps called this a "34
minute slowdown". The first and last photos are separated by 91
minutes and 4.3 miles for an average of 2.8 MPH.

A couple of dinosaurs, a king and his pet, a pair of giraffes, and pretty
maids all in a row. I spotted this huge collection of huge things at the
edge of Victorville from I-15 and just had to drive the half-mile off
course to check it out. A lady in the
World
Concrete Precast office told me that all of the concrete items and the
smaller metal item are made here but that the big stuff is made in Mexico.
She said that the big King Kong was made for a business near Disneyland in
Anaheim but the city would not permit it to be installed. Too big for two
legs, they said. The business does have some equally large four-legged
statues in place.

|
|
Then it was into Victorville proper and a stop at the
California
Route 66 Museum. That great looking bucket-T is owned by Larry, one of
the museum's volunteers. There are cars inside but they don't look quite
as spiffy. The last time
I was here, volunteer Delvin Harbour and I had
our picture taken in that
open Ford. Delvin no looker works here but I left a "Hello" for
him with Danny at the desk

Elmer Long died in 2019 but others have stepped in to keep the Bottle Tree
Ranch that he created going and they are doing a fine job. I understaand
that there have even been some additions but I couldn't tell you just what
they are.
I had been thinking of staying at a motel in Needles that I've never used but about which I've heard good things. But when I called, I learned it was completely booked for the night. Instead, I spent the night at a chain motel in Barstow. |
