For only the second time I can remember, I'm wearing a robe supplied by
the place where I am staying. The
first time was also during a Christmas respite. That was fourteen
years ago when the Delta Queen was operating as a hotel in
Chattanooga, TN.

Yesterday, when I told Jay Webb I would be staying at the Brown, he
suggested I take a walk up the street and take a look at the also historic
Seelbach Hotel.
In Louisville, I learned that the Seelbach is known for its breakfast so
I braved the morning drizzle to indulge myself with another excellent
meal. F. Scott Fitzgerald was a frequent visitor to the Seelbach and
"The Great Gatsby" has many connections here. The restaurant
where I ate breakfast is named Gatsby's. I failed to get a picture of Chef
Curt and his omelet station -- they were behind me when I snapped the
photo of the buffet -- but I did get a picture of one of his creations
just before I wolfed it down.

I stayed close to home for the rest of the day and found a seat at the
lobby bar at feeding time. I kept it simple with some lobster mac &
cheese between the Buffalo Trace and Larceny. Then, with a goodbye wave to
the piano player, I grabbed a cup of hot cider and headed to my room.

| This video recently appeared on my Facebook feed. I think it was because a friend "liked" it but I'm not sure and it really doesn't matter. Even though it isn't a Christmas song exactly, I immediately marked it to use as this year's musical selection. These guys died just a week apart in 2019. The page background is the big tree at Fourth Street Live just a few blocks away from the Brown Hotel. |
