Breakfast with Dave Habura started my day. I mentioned Dave's help regarding the Red Trail blaze at the Waterville Hotel. He has also provided information on other YT POIs, motels, and weather. Today he provided coffee and muffins. Although we have had plenty of digital communication, this is only our second real world meeting. The first was in 2008 when he guided me to several sites in the Columbia River area. We met in the Tumwater Historical Park where the historical aspects include the former Olympia Brewery. A nearby sign tells of plans for its restoration.

Dave directed me to old US-99 which saved me from the interstate until I succumbed at Centralia, WA.

About four miles after entering Oregon, an overhead sign attempted to explain the cause of a traffic backup. Because I was on my way to the next exit, traffic in the lane I was in eventually moved past the blockage and I learned that "DEBRIS ON ROAD" is a euphemism for "OFFICER STRUGGLING WITH WILD WOMAN". Things moved too quickly for me to get a picture so you don't have to believe me.

I had another meeting planned with a friend in Portland, OR. Knowing of Portland's reputation for breweries, I suggested (requested might be more truthful) meeting at a one of them. Cece picked Deschutes Brewery Portland Public House. I arrived a little early and occupied myself with Raspberry Black Butte Porter on nitro. Cece is Cecilia Otto of American Songline. She tells history through music. We met when she was doing a program on the Lincoln Highway centennial and she has since done programs on WW I, women's suffrage, and prohibition. Dan, Cece's husband, finished the workday in time to join us for the last beer and a group photo.

I learned from Cece that she likes Caffrey's as much as I do and that Powell's, "The World's Largest Independent Bookstore", was just a block away. I had to try a picture when I found myself passing it when I left. I did not, to the best of my knowledge, pass any Caffrey's.
