This is the Ocean Park Motel where I also stayed in 2009. This time I've got a "room with a view" on the second floor. The third picture shows the steps leading to it and the room itself is here.

I started the day by walking down to the beach for a tiny glimpse of the ocean. The mist was heavy enough to feel like rain but I think that's pretty normal in San Francisco. After a block on the beach, I headed to Java Beach for some coffee and a carrot-zucchini muffin. Then it was back to the motel where I loaded up the car and headed south on Great Highway. I've driven most of the Pacific coast above San Francisco and below Los Angeles but almost none of it between those cities. This seemed just the right time to do that.

The first picture is sort of a preview of what awaits me on CA 1. The next two are from Pigeon Point Lighthouse Station. Because of ongoing repairs, the lighthouse itself cannot be reached but good views of it are plentiful. The fourth picture shows the morning fog bank from Big Basin Redwoods State Park a few miles south of the lighthouse.

I drove through Carmel-by-the-Sea expecting to see enticing photo ops on every corner but came away empty handed. However, I thought this station and store in Carmel Highlands to be rather picturesque. The ocean view is from a pull off just south of the store.

Approaching and reaching the 1932 Bixby Bridge at Big Sur. During the approach, I passed this warning/enticement.

Some of the rock work around Big Sur along with a view of some sincerely seaside addresses.

A couple of views looking back at the Big Creek Bridge.

These wind surfers were just north of San Simeon.
