September 20, 2021 (day 5)
I followed the Lincoln Highway for much of the day until I went into
express mode at Pittsburgh. I spent some time at the Lincoln Highway
Experience and even more at the Flight 93 Memorial.
September 19, 2021 (day 4)
I made it to school on time and successfully drove a quartet of Ford
Model Ts. By successfully I mean in an open field without hitting anybody.
I was then surprised by a closed restaurant and an open museum before
ending the day in my own cabin beside the Lincoln Highway.
September 18, 2021 (day 3)
Much of today was spent at the America on Wheels museum with my own
personal guide. I finished the day by driving to Hershey and touring The
Hershey Story Museum.
September 17, 2021 (day 2)
I had about 400 miles to cover today so I took to the boring expressway
after barely 20 miles of interesting National Road/US-40. The day was
rescued by a cool restaurant at my destination.
September 16, 2021 (day 1)
Even with a midday start, I had no problem reaching my destination near
Zanesville with plenty of light remaining. I even managed to cover a
little National Road on the way.
Prelude - September 11, 2021
There has been a Falling Water trip in my Fixed Leads list since sometime
before COVID hit although the lead has been anything but fixed for an
awfully long time. At first, the problem was that Falling Water tours,
like so many other things, just weren't happening. They apparently started
up again some time this summer, but by the time I learned that, they were
mostly sold out. At some point, I decided to put together a different trip
using some of the lodging planned for the Falling Water trip but targeting
another Pennsylvania attraction I was interested in. I have organized a
trip around the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey.
Allentown is less than a hundred miles beyond, so I've decided to make my
second to the America on Wheels Museum there. Overnights will be at a
couple of historic spots combined with a couple of generic chain motels.
The "PA Cars" trip name is pretty pitiful but it's the best I've
got.
